The Virginia General Assembly is taking important steps to protect animals! The state Senate is scheduled to vote on SB 1397, the Humane Cosmetics Act, and SB 1417, requiring adoption of research animals once facilities are done testing on them. HB 2250, the house version of the Humane Cosmetics Act, is scheduled to be voted on in House committee.
The Humane Cosmetics Act would prohibit manufacturers from testing cosmetics on animals in Virginia and prohibit the sale in state of any cosmetic that was manufactured using animal testing that was conducted on or after January 1, 2022. SB 1417 would require any animal testing facility to offer up for adoption dogs or cats that are no longer needed for research.
