Animals in Scientific Research
Dr. Greek's Office - Biography
Dr. Ray Greek is a board certified anesthesiologist with a sub-specialty in Pain Management. Retired from private practice, he is now a successful author and spokesperson. Dr. Greek is co-author of the books, "Sacred Cows & Golden Geese-The Human Cost of Experiments on Animals" and "Specious Science-How Genetics and Evolution Reveal Why Medical Research on Animals Harms Humans".
Written with his wife, Dr. Jean Swingle Greek, DVM, both books demonstrate how animal experiments are not only unnecessary, but have also resulted in harm to humans. Dr. Greek effectively argues that the money currently going to fund animal experiments should be designated for other historically more productive and scientific means of health research.
In their latest book, Dr. Ray Greek and Jean Swingle Greek, take their argument to a whole new level by focusing on the wealth of non-animal alternatives that are available.

Dr. Greek received his medical degree from the University of Alabama, and his postgraduate training in anesthesia from the University of Wisconsin. He has taught at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and the University of Wisconsin. Widely published in both lay and medical literature, Dr. Greek travels internationally to speak to leaders of government, legislators, attorneys, scientists and more. He has appeared on national and international media outlets in his mission to educate the public on the scientifically invalid use of animals in research.
In addition to serving as the Science Advisor for NAVS, Dr. Greek is also president of Americans For Medical Advancement (AFMA), a not for profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the hazards of extrapolating the results of experiments on animals to humans.
Dr. Greek states:
"For too long, we have allowed the vital resources that support biomedical research to be squandered by the vested interest groups. People are dying everyday from cancer, AIDS, heart disease, adverse drug reactions, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, birth defects and many more. It is time we the people take control of our how our taxes are spent in the field of medical research."
Dr. Ray Greek is available for debates against those with a vested interest in animal models. Visit the Americans for Medical Advancement (AFMA) website to contact Dr. Greek.
