More than 50 Macaques Released from Laboratory Research

NAVS Sanctuary Fund awards grants to all the sanctuaries giving them permanent residence
In early July of this year, a research lab located in Warren County, NJ, closed due to bankruptcy. More than 50 macaque monkeys kept at the facility suddenly found themselves without a place to live. Four primate sanctuaries offered to provide permanent residence for the displaced macaques.
Mindy’s Memory in Newcastle, OK, will welcome eight of the refugees. Seven more will find sanctuary at Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation in Kendalia, TX. Primarily Primates in San Antonio, TX, is prepared to take in 25, and Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary in Dilley, TX, will be home to 15 of these fortunate macaque monkeys.
A NAVS Sanctuary Fund grant was awarded to each of the sanctuaries to help construct habitats and offset feeding and maintenance costs of this unforeseen rescue. From today forward, these animals can begin living a life of comfort and enrichment such as they have never known. No longer languishing in an inoperative research facility, they will finally feel—for the first time—sunlight on their faces, grass beneath their toes, and freedom.
As always, we thank you generous donors who make these grants possible. Every dollar makes a difference in a life. Please consider making a donation to the NAVS Sanctuary Fund and help us continue to provide emergency assistance to animals in dire situations where immediate intervention is necessary.
