LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT

Adopting a cruelty-free lifestyle does, of course, require some level of individual commitment (which will naturally vary from person to person, depending on their own ethical boundaries, expectations, free time, resources, etc.), but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Indeed, there’s a wealth of simple, direct actions that each of us can immediately take to powerfully influence the way society views sentient creatures, particularly laboratory animals.

One of the easiest yet most effective places to start is as a proactive consumer. It’s called Cruelty-Free Shopping. Believe it or not, you – as part of a collective marketplace force – can make your voice heard simply by avoiding products made by companies that still experiment on animals (and by directly but politely letting those companies know where you stand on the issue).

So, which companies still test on animals? NAVS provides a quick, convenient way to find out with our Cruelty-Free Product Search, allowing you to look up both companies and individual products to find who tests on animals… and who doesn’t.

Of course, Cruelty-Free Shopping is just a start (albeit a very good one), and we certainly don’t expect that everyone will be able to do everything on the following list. But we do hope that you, as a fellow animal lover, will team up with us in doing as much as you reasonably can – as often as you can – to help put an end to needless animal suffering.

  • Support NAVS. To continue educational and advocacy programs dedicated to ending the needless suffering of laboratory animals, we depend on moral and financial support from caring, compassionate people like you.
  • Purchase products only from companies who do not test their products or ingredients on animals, and find replacement brands for any animal-tested products you’re currently using.
  • Avoid ingredients that have been tested on animals by selecting products that use safe ingredients.
  • Purchase clothing and household items that are not derived from animals.
  • Contact companies who test on animals and firmly but politely let them know that you object to their practices, and will be boycotting their products until they agree to change their policies. Specifically ask for a direct reply and forward copies of your communications to NAVS.
  • Alert NAVS to companies who don’t yet appear in our Cruelty-Free Product Search database.
  • Take action on federal, state and local animal welfare initiatives.
  • Share the NAVS website with your family and friends.
  • Sign up for our free weekly email bulletins – Science First and Take Action Thursday – to stay up-to-date on the latest news and NAVS campaign information (and share both bulletins with family, friends and co-workers!).
  • Call or write your alma mater and let them know that you won’t support any educational institution that supports animal testing and experimentation.
  • Learn more about planned giving by downloading a free copy of A Legacy of Compassion, and consider leaving a bequest to NAVS so our work can continue in the years ahead!
  • Bookmark the NAVS website, and check back often for updates, new campaigns and more ways you can help end animal suffering.
  • Connect with NAVS on Twitter and Facebook to stay informed of current issues, useful facts and more to help stop animal suffering.

For more than 80 years, NAVS, in close concert with legions of like-minded animal advocates from around the world, has proven that a solid moral structure, underpinned by unshakable ethical commitment and bolstered by measured, constructive teamwork, can dramatically reshape hearts and minds to create a more humane humanity.

With the continuing encouragement and support of people like you, animal testing and experimentation will one day finally be relegated to a dark, forgotten chapter of human history where it belongs, and organizations like NAVS will no longer be needed. Until then, our mission – the resolute pursuit of peace and justice for all living creatures, both great and small – tirelessly marches forward.
